The Heartland Award for Excellence in
Young Adult Literature

The Committee wishes to note that not all books are appropriate for all grade levels. Discretionary steps should be taken by the teacher, librarian and student. We encourage strongly that teachers and librarians read the books prior to promoting them to their students.

The 10 finalists' books are available at area Borders Book Stores.  Look for the Heartland display.  (If you do not see a Heartland display in these locations, please have the store manager contact John Bushman at The Writing Conference.)

Students who vote must be in grades 6-12. They must have read at least three (3) of the books on the list. Students may vote only once. Students may vote by online ballot. Or, teachers or librarians may mail ballots to:

Deadline for ballots to be returned: April 15.

The Writing Conference, Inc. has created  bookmarks and  posters with the list of the 10 finalists on them. They may be used as reminders of the books to be read. Teachers and librarians may request quantities of these bookmarks for their students. To request some, email jbushman@writingconference.com
